A Public Square Rosary Rally, one of 16,000 nationwide commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions, prophecies, and miracles, will be held at noon Saturday, May 13, at Our Lady of Fatima Grotto, North Street, Wilkes-Barre. The rosary rally is sponsored by America Needs Fatima, and the local Lay Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

White Haven coach suspected of child rape

A White Haven man who is also an athletic coach faces 20 felonies after police say he raped a minor. Teddy C. Newton, 53, of Hazle Street, faces four counts each rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Swoyersville Kiwanis host health screenings

Swoyersville Kiwanis will hold its annual AMBA blood screening from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at the American Legion on Shoemaker Street. The tests will include more than 30 tests for liver, coronary disease, diabetes, anemia, and kidney disease.

LCTA Resumes Limited Service in Luzerne County

For the first time in three days, you can see Luzerne County Transportation Authority buses traversing through the snow and the slush – about 17 buses to be exact. He understands the challenges of getting around snow banks and slick roads with a 40,000 pound bus with rear wheel drive.

Wyoming Seminary Lower School Science Research Group students, under the direction of eighth grade science teacher Lisa Iskra, recently earned awards for their research projects at the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, Northeast Regional Meeting at Wilkes University. One of my favorite days of the year is when Daylight Savings Time begins, Sunday, March 12, at 2 a.m. Before you go to bed tonight, don't forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour. Our mornings will stay darker longer, but our evenings will be brighter.

Call Board: Auditions for ‘Avenue Q,’ ‘Sister Act’

Auditions for Tamaqua Community Art Center's production of “Avenue Q,” an adult comedy with suggestive themes and languages, will be 6-8 p.m. April 7 and 8 a.m.-noon April 8, with call backs 2-4 p.m. April 9 at the center, 125 Pine St. The Music Box Players will hold auditions for “Sister Act” at 7 p.m. March 12 and 13 at the playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville. Actors, ages 16 and over, should prepare a song and be ready to read from the script.

Free smoke alarms available to residents of Kingston and Forty Fort

Chief Frank Guido and The Kington/Forty Fort Fire Department, along with Channel 16 and Kidde, announced a limited number of smoke detectors are available to residents of Kingston and Forty Fort. Any resident requiring assistance is asked to call Kingston Fire Headquarters at 570-287-0770 or 570-287-0913 to have someone come to your home and install the detectors at no charge.
